Do you want to know where all the heat in a home goes? (click to view a diagram)

Try these tips to help keep your home warmer and drier:

  • Insulate your home. Having your home insulated will help keep your home cool in summer and warmer and drier in winter.
  • Put lids on pots when cooking.
  • Open windows in the bathroom and kitchen, or use extractor fans to remove steam.
  • Dry clothes outside.
  • Open windows on fine days to let air through and to reduce mould and dampness.
  • Remove mould using a cloth or sponge with household bleach (1 part bleach to 9 parts of water).
  • Draw curtains closed before it gets dark to keep the heat in.
  • Use draught stops under doors.
  • Avoid using unflued gas heating as it increases moisture and releases toxins.
